Recent Cases of Foodborne Illness in Mississippi

Health officials in Mississippi are constantly on the alert for cases of foodborne illness that can signal larger outbreaks. Foodborne illnesses can lead to absence from work or school, hospitalizations and even death in the most serious cases.

According to the MS State Department of Health, foodborne illnesses such as Salmonellosis, Shigellosis and Campylobacteriosis are the most common foodborne illnesses in the state. In 2009, state health investigators investigated 74 foodborne illness outbreaks.
