To prevent foodborne illness, the Arkansas Department of Health recommends four basic steps:

  • Clean: Wash hands and food preparation surfaces frequently.
  • Separate: Keep raw meats separate from other foods so no cross-contamination occurs.
  • Cook: Cook and reheat food to proper temperatures.
  • Chill: Refrigerate foods properly, keeping refrigerator at or below 40 degree F.
